devKit 08 was the pilot project for an annual summer game programming workshop for High School students in the Portland, ME area.
To set up your computer for development, follow these steps.
- Download and install Microsoft Visual C++ Express Edition 2008 (or newer).
- Download and install the DirectX 9 SDK. If this link is broken, Google for "directx sdk".
- Download and install RapidSVN.
- Optionally download and install Paint.NET and Audacity.
- Open RapidSVN.
- Select Checkout from the Repository menu.
- For URL, type svn://devKitME.org/.
- For Destination Directory, enter c:\devkit\.
- Make sure Add to Bookmarks is checked, and press Ok.
- The source code will be downloaded to the c:\devkit\2008 folder. Open it in Visual C++ and develop as normal.
- Note: When you try to commit your work, you will be asked for a username and password.
Your username is your first name in lower case, your password is your first and last initial in upper case.
If you would like to start a new project, please use the /personal/myusername/ folder on the SVN server.
Pilot project completed! We had three very talented students and over the course of one week created a complete game, start to finish! Congratulations to all participants.
The results of the pilot will be posted shortly.
Application deadline extended! Since our entire staff is in California until the end of May, we are extending the application deadline until June 1st. If you have submitted an application already, we promise to respond no later than June 8th.

Wade visited two classes at Westbrook Regional Vocational Center today, talked about the program and collected email addresses. Thanks to programming teacher Bill Brown for the invitation.
